Boxerwood Nature Center and Woodland Garden will offer two information sessions this month for those interested in getting outdoors and active this spring through volunteering. The two, one-hour, no-commitment sessions are identical, and those interested may register for either Saturday, March 14, or Tuesday, March 17, from 10 to 11 a.m.
“Many folks know Boxerwood as a welcoming place to meander, learn and refresh,” said Hannah West, Boxerwood operations director, “but less known is the essential role of volunteers in everything we do.” According to West, more than 80 people provide hands-on help to the environmental education organization each year. Boxerwood’s Volunteer Program offers many ways to contribute, she noted, with options for all ages and stages of physical ability.
This spring, Boxerwood is recruiting volunteers to help with tending the woodland garden, teaching children, planting community trees, welcoming visitors, supporting Music in the Garden, and reviewing applications for COREworks, Boxerwood’s innovative carbon offset marketplace. Both information sessions will take place in the Boxerwood Lodge, at 963 Ross Road, less than a mile outside of Lexington. During each session, Boxerwood staff will provide an overview of the organization’s history, mission, work and needs, followed by an optional garden tour. Light refreshments will be served.
