On Saturday, Feb. 28, residents of the Buffalo, Collierstown and greater Effinger communities gathered with family members to celebrate and remember the life of Nellie Leech who passed away on Feb. 15.
Mrs. Leech, a graduate of Effinger High School and Madison College, had a long career as an elementary teacher in Rockbridge County. She was a member of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities but always seeking to draw others to faith and Christianity.
Mrs. Leech was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who also made community service an important part of her life and that of her family. She enjoyed supporting the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department carnival, working at the Effinger Ruritan Club’s annual Palmer Ice Cream Supper and being involved with the activities of the Rockbridge 4-H Clubs and Extension Homemakers. On Election Day, she could be found working at the polls.
For many years she was the Airport Acres reporter for The News-Gazette, faithfully keeping residents informed on activities and opportunities available in their community. We celebrate and honor her life and hope to follow her example for years to come.
