Madison and Katharine Brown don masks in a Mardi Gras celebration at Grace Episcopal Church on Feb. 17. A dinner and auction were organized for the church’s new initiative, Children Aspiring To Education, established to assist Haitian and South Sudanese school children. Funds were sent directly to the Ecole Saint Marc in Cerca-la-Source, Haiti; Kelly Academy of Hope near Wau, South Sudan; and Hope House International, a residence for South Sudanese youth going to schools in Kenya. Music at the Mardi Gras event was provided by Rockbridge County’s Half Brassed Brass Band.
