Putting on a show at home, the Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team cruised to a 71-46 win over George Wythe in the Region 1C quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Buena Vista.
With the win in a physical game, the Fighting Blues (21-3), the top seed from the Pioneer District, advanced to the Region 1C semifinals, which will take place at Pulaski County High School in Dublin on Friday at 6 p.m. The Blues will face Auburn (13-11), the second seed from the Mountain Empire District, and the winner will earn a berth in the Class 1 state tournament and will advance to the Region 1C championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pulaski County. In Auburn’s quarterfinal game on Tuesday night, the Eagles defeated Eastern Montgomery 49-36.
Last year, George Wythe defeated the Blues 75-57 in the Region 1C championship game, but it was the Blues that controlled the game this time. The Maroons, the fourth seed from the Mountain Empire District, concluded the season with a record of 16-9.
