Rockbridge
Elevator Upgrade Approved
The elevator in the Rockbridge County administration building is being modernized after several decades of use.
The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 28 awarded a contract to the low bidder, Southern Elevator Company Inc., to do the modernization and provide project and preventative maintenance services. The supervisors received five responses to a request for proposals that went out lastAugust.
Ashton Harrison, the county’s director of finance, said the elevator dates to 1965, and was in need of a complete overhaul. The elevator predates the building’s current use, going back to when it was previously a Leggett’s Department Store.
The cost of the project is $444,000.
