Ducks In A Row Class Starts In March

ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice continues to offer its popular six-session Ducks in a Row course, which helps individuals organize the essential information, documents and decisions that lessen the burden on loved ones at the end of life.

Spring sessions begin in March and meet every other week for approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours, depending on group discussion. Each gathering includes both an educational component and facilitated discussions that encourage sharing ideas, resources, and real-life strategies.

Over a lifetime, people accumulate documents, accounts, responsibilities, and wishes that often remain unorganized. When families suddenly face a serious illness or death, the emotional and administrative strain can be overwhelming, said instructor and longtime ConnectionsPlus volunteer Joanne Robblee. This course helps participants take proactive steps to reduce stress.

“People today tend to lock the subject of death in the closet in the back bedroom and simply don’t want to think or talk about it,” she said. “When we are suddenly faced with the death of a loved one or our own death, we are woefully ill-prepared. The goal of this course is to help us accept the fact of our own death and to do what we can to prepare for it.”

The one comment she said her hears most often from class participants is, “I had no idea what I needed to do. Everyone needs this class.”

Each session focuses on a different core topic:

• Personal information — Essential details needed if someone must act on your behalf ;

• Health information — Physicians, insurance, directives, and key medical details;

• Property information — Monthly bills, home services, digital assets, and legal documents; • Financial information — Income, assets, and liabilities;

• Final Wishes — Funeral preferences, obituary notes, and spiritual considerations

• After You Are Gone — Ethical wills, grief, and estate settlement.

Participants can expect accountability, camaraderie, mutual support, and even a few laughs as they work together to complete this important life task.
