McCullough Wins National Cabinetry Contest Award

When Jessica McCullough received a call from Showplace Cabinetry on Monday, Feb. 2, she was thrilled to learn she had won a major award in Showplace’s national 2025 design contest, beating out entries from Showplace dealers across America. McCullough is an interior specialist and designer at Spencer Home Center.

McCullough won first place in the bathroom design category for a project she designed last year. Showplace described her part of the project on their website announcing the award: “After downsizing from a twostory home to single-story living, these homeowners set out to completely reimagine their brick ranch. What was once a child’s bedroom is now a luxurious and highly personalized master bathroom and laundry combination, designed to blend function, beauty, and individuality.”

She explained, “I submitted my entry into the Showplace Design Contest back in August. It had to be a current project installed within a certain time frame of the competition entry and had to use Showplace cabinetry. I had to submit photos of the project and then explain all the details, like how we started, how we got here, inspiration behind the design, any challenges we faced, anything that really stood out about the project, etc. That combination of information was used to judge the designs and then used as the write up on the Showplace website.”

McCullough described some of the special challenges involved in the project. “The customers wanted pocket doors to hide their washer and dryer. Showplace doesn’t have hardware large enough for doors that size, so I had to order custom hardware to make it work. We mulled all the base cabinets together so it looks like one solid piece of furniture, even though there are actually five base cabinets between the two tall cabinets. I also designed hidden storage for toiletries, with hidden pullouts on the ends. It was one of those projects that was so fun to design and when a homeowner like this one trusts you to do what you need to do to execute their vision, it feels so rewarding to see it come together in the end.”

McCullough graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. She moved to the Rockbridge area in 2015 with her husband, and joined Spencer Home Center in 2018.

When not at work at Spencer’s, she restores and flips houses with her dad. Other hobbies include spending time with her husband and dog. She loves the beach and the outdoors and also spends time painting, crafting and reading.

Showplace Cabinetry is made in America and located in South Dakota. They service more than 800 dealers nationwide, all small businesses like Spencer Home Center.
