PM Girls Coast To Victory Over Highland, Advance To District Semifinals

The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team earned a spot in the Region 1C tournament with a 42-20 home victory over Highland County in the Pioneer District quarterfinals on Monday night in Buena Vista.

Kayleigh Ramsey and Josie Martinez scored 12 points each to lead the third-seeded Fighting Blues (9-12 overall, 5-5 district) over the sixth-seeded Rams (4-14, 0-10).

The Blues will travel to Elliston on Tuesday night to take on second-seeded Eastern Montgomery (11-7, 8-2) in the district semifinals at 6 p.m. The Mustangs won both of the regular-season meetings against PM, battling to a 35-29 victory on Dec. 18 at PM and cruising to a 47-22 on Jan. 22 in Elliston.

The winners of the semifinal games will advance to the district championship, which is scheduled to take place at the higher seed on Thursday, while the losers will play at the same location in the consolation game, with times to be announced.
