On Monday, Feb. 16, the Rockbridge Chorus, directed by William McCorkle, will launch rehearsals for a special gala concert celebrating the ensemble’s 50th anniversary. The concert, to be presented on April 18 at Washington and Lee University’s Wilson Hall, will be a musical retrospective of the chorus’s half-century of singing. The program will be a veritable “taster’s choice” of selections from oratorio, opera, folk, seasonal and pops repertoire.
Joining the chorus will be its founding director, Gordon Spice, along with a number of guest soloists who have sung here over the years. The Rockbridge Youth Chorale, directed by Lacey Lynch and Katelyn Roll, and celebrating its 25th anniversary, will sing as part of the event.
The rehearsal on Feb. 16 will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Lexington Presbyterian Church. All interested singers are invited to attend. There is a fee for participation, but scholarship assistance is available. Anyone wishing more information is invited to call (540) 460-9650. Participants are asked to arrive a few minutes before the starting time to take care of registration and to receive materials.
The Rockbridge Chorus is a member ensemble, along with the Rockbridge Youth Chorale and the Rockbridge Chamber Singers, of the Rockbridge Choral Society. The organization operates thanks to generous support from individuals and businesses in the community.
