Collierstown

Collierstown Deborah Potter McCormick, 463-7652

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s “Pack the Porch” food drive was held on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The generosity of the Collierstown community resulted in the giving of much needed food and supplies to Helping Hands, a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Many thanks to community residents and the church’s membership for the many donations of canned food and paper products as well as monetary gifts given. Monetary gifts are still being accepted and can be mailed to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 and designated for the “Pack the Porch” food drive.

Community residents are reminded the Effinger Mobile Food Pantry will be at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department, 2824 Collierstown Road, Lexington, on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 2 to 3 p.m. with a variety of free groceries items available for pick up. Available items will include fresh produce, frozen meat and non-perishable items. There are no income restrictions for this service.

On Sunday, Feb. 15, there will be a “Warm Your Heart” soup and salad luncheon at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church following the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Feb. 15. The meal will include a variety of homemade soups, salads, desserts and beverages as well as warm fellowship. Members and patrons from the community will also have an opportunity to support the church’s annual Blanket Sunday campaign. Each year the community and residents in the surrounding area are invited to make a monetary donation to Church World Service’s Blanket program. The cost of a blanket is $10. Donations should be designated for CWS Blankets and can be mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 or dropped off at the church by Sunday, Feb. 15. Blankets are essential for those without a home. They provide warmth, shelter and a way of transporting clothing and other personal items for those without a home.

The Collierstown United Methodist Women in Faith will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Carolyn Manspile will lead the evening’s program.
