Two individuals from New York were taken into custody by the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a burglary at the Virginia Horse Center in January.
According to a press release put out by the sheriff’s office on Friday, deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to the horse center around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, for a reported burglary involving the theft of more than $5,000 worth of merchandise from a vendor participating in the USA BMX Blue Ridge Nationals event. Through the “rapid investigation” and with “the assistance of the BMX community” deputies identified two suspects and located them at a nearby hotel.
Anthony Trinca, 45, of Ridge, N.Y., and Matthew Urbanowiecz, 40, of Middle Island, N.Y., were both taken into custody and were each charged with one felony count of breaking and entering and one felony count of grand larceny. Both individuals have been released on bond and have hearings scheduled for Feb. 20 in General District Court regarding appointment of their defense attorneys.
“The quick response and decisive actions taken by members of the Office of the Sheriff for Rockbridge County and Lexington city highlight the dedication and professionalism our agency is committed to providing this community,” Sheriff Tony McFaddin said in the release. “I want to thank our deputies who routinely respond, investigate, and take appropriate law enforcement action when criminal offenses occur in our community.”
