Feb. 2, 2026 Editor, The News Gazette: Our democracy itself would remind us that, as divisive and even dangerous as President Trump and his administration are proving to be, the real danger continues to be ideas contained in the book “Project 2025,” some of whose authors now hold high places in the administration — Vice President J.D. Vance, and Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russell Vought, for example.
The book, from the Heritage Foundation, holds that average citizens lack the depth of intelligence and sureness of mind to lead, and that therefore the executive branch should take charge over the legislative and judicial branches.
Well, we have seen the results, from the president and those who have influenced and led him: a poor economy at home, hurtful relationships with foreign countries, presidential cronyism with personal friends and relatives, woefully unjust pardons, injustice towards some states, and lately even the danger of war.
It is time now, before it is too late: those who have joined together to replace our freedom and peace with dictatorship must be brought to task! JOHN BLACKLEY Lexington
