Transient Canvas Explores New Sounds At W&L
Bass clarinet and marimba take center stage when Transient Canvas appears in concert on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. in Wilson Hall at Washington and Lee University.
Presented by the SonoKlect Series, the concert is free, with a reception to follow.
Transient Canvas, known nationally for its adventurous programming and commitment to new music, will present a program featuring contemporary works written specifically for their distinctive instrumentation.
The concert will include “Lament,” a composition by Terry Vosbein, written expressly for the duo. The work reflects the ensemble’s expressive range and close collaborative relationship with living composers.
The duo consists of bass clarinetist Amy Advocat and marimbist Matt Sharrock.
Since its founding in 2011, Transient Canvas has commissioned and premiered dozens of new works and released multiple recordings highlighting the rich sonic possibilities of bass clarinet and marimba. Their performances are noted for clarity, intensity, and a strong sense of musical dialogue.
The SonoKlect Series brings innovative contemporary music to Washington and Lee University and the surrounding community, presenting performers and composers whose work expands the boundaries of today’s concert repertoire.
