Deborah Potter McCormick, 463-7652 Cold weather and icy conditions continued to force cancellation of church services and activities in the Collierstown community this week. Plans have been made to resume those activities this week.
The Night Circle of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its February meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 5, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A light supper in the church kitchen will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Bible study. Debbie McCormick will lead the study on the Christian virtue of Forgiveness based on Matthew 18:15-20. All women are invited to join the group in person or on Facebook Live. For more information call Debbie McCormick at (540) 4601325.
The “Pack the Porch” food drive of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. As a part of the “Souper Bowl of Caring” food initiative the railed porch area at the entrance to the church’s two front doors will be the food collection site. The goal for this year’s event is to fill the porch completely with canned food, paper products, and monetary gifts that will be donated to Helping Hands, a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. The Collierstown Presbyterian Church family invites the community and its churches to help by bringing donations to the church’s porch. Volunteers will pick up donations if requested and will be on hand to help place items on the porch that day. Contributions may also be dropped off at Cattlemen’s Market any business day Monday through Friday, Feb. 2-6. For more information on becoming a “porch volunteer” or to arrange a donation pick up, call the church at (540) 463-5918. Monetary gifts can be mailed to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 and should be designated for “Pack the Porch.”
On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Effinger Mobile Food Pantry will be at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department from 2 to 3 p.m. with a variety of free grocery items available for pick up. Available items will include fresh produce, frozen meat and nonperishable items. There are no income restrictions for this service.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its annual “Warm Your Heart” soup and salad luncheon immediately following the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Feb. 15. The meal will include a variety of homemade soups, salads, desserts and beverages as well as warm fellowship. Members and patrons will also have an opportunity to support the church’s annual Blanket Sunday campaign. Each year the community and residents in the surrounding area are invited to make a monetary donation or to honor a friend with a contribution to Church World Service’s Blanket program. The cost of a blanket is $10. Donations should be designated for Blanket Sunday and can be mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 or dropped off at the church by Sunday, Feb. 15.
The Collierstown United Methodist Women in Faith will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Carolyn Manspile will lead the evening’s program.
