With only a handful of wrestlers able to compete last Tuesday night (Jan. 20) in Buena Vista, Parry McCluer dropped a pair of matches in their regular-season home finale, dropping decisions to state powerhouses Rural Retreat, 71-6, and Riverheads, 70-12.
The Blues sent only four wrestlers to the mat in that tri-meet as injuries continued to besiege Parry McCluer. Brody Julian, PM’s 126-pounder who led the Blues in victories entering the night’s action, was forced to concede a default in his match against Rural Retreat and did not wrestle at all in the second bout after suffering an apparent concussion. He is expected to return for the Region 1C tournament in mid-February.
In the two matches, the Blues mustered only three victories, two from heavyweight Timber Thomas. Against Rural Retreat, Thomas battled to a scoreless tie after one period but scored an escape and a takedown early in the second before winning by fall in 3:20. In his bout with Mason Flint of Riverheads, Thomas rolled to an 11-1 lead and recorded another pin in 5:11.

Jordan Brockenbrough, at 138, picked up Parry McCluer’s only other victory of the night. Brockenbrough scored the first takedown in his match with Isaac Fountaine of Riverheads and pinned his opponent with just one second remaining on the first-period clock.
The Blues close out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Riverheads for the Big Red Invitational, the final tune-up before the postseason begins.
