The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team split a pair of road games last week, cruising past Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy and then falling to Eastern Montgomery in Pioneer District action.
Last Monday, Josie Martinez totaled 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Fighting Blues (4-11 overall, 2-4 district) to a 65-25 victory over SMLCA in Moneta. Kayleigh Ramsey added 14 points and four assists for the Blues, and Emory Slagle recorded 10 points, seven assists and six steals.

EastMont 47, PM 22
PM couldn’t maintain its momentum upon returning to district play on Thursday, dropping a 47-22 decision to Eastern Montgomery down in Elliston.
Macie Akers posted 18 points, burying four 3-pointers, as the Mustangs (8-6, 5-1) completed a season sweep of the Blues. EastMont had secured a 35-29 victory over PM in Buena Vista back on Dec. 18.
Martinez paced the Blues with 12 points. But only two other players scored for PM, with Slagle and Caroline Watts contributing five points apiece.
The Mustangs held a narrow 8-6 lead after the opening quarter. However, fueled by 10 points from Akers in the second period, EastMont outscored PM 14-5 in the frame to take a 22-11 lead into halftime. The Mustangs then posted a 12-4 advantage in the third stanza to put the contest out of reach.
Olivia Boone and Brookelyn Kingery scored eight points apiece for East-Mont, and Karsen Underwood had six markers.
PM was scheduled to take on Rockbridge County in a weather-abbreviated version of the Rock the Ribbon Roundball Shootout in Lexington on Friday, followed by a home district game against Highland County last night.
