Black History Month Events Slated At Library

The Rockbridge Regional Library in Lexington will host exhibits and programs to honor Black history throughout the month of February.

From Feb. 2 through Feb. 12, area residents can see an exhibit sponsored by the Alexandria Public Library titled “1939 Library Sit-In” to commemorate peaceful protests that resulted in legal action against Black citizens who were denied public library services.

On Feb. 10 at 6 p.m., Rockbridge Historical Society Executive Director Eric Wilson will pair selected scenes with discussion from the film “Six Triple Eight,” in the next installment of the Revolutionary Films screening series, sponsored by RHS, VA250 and RRL. VA250 is a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, highlighting Virginia’s significant role in American history.

On Feb. 16 at 5 p.m., representatives from the Brownsburg Museum will present “Threads of Truth: The Creative Journey of ‘Interwoven’ at the Brownsburg Museum.” Attendees will be able to go behind the walls to discover the inspiration and the ultimate truths revealed in this acclaimed exhibition at the Brownsburg Museum. They can hear from those involved in the research and hear the words from descendants of those enslaved.

On Feb. 25 at 6 p.m., Eric Wilson from RHS will lead the next Revolutionary Books discussion for “Half American,” the epic story of African Americans fighting World War II at home and abroad by Matthew F. Delmont.
