The inclement weather and cold temperatures resulted in church closings and the postponement of activities on Jan. 25. All community churches plan to resume scheduled activities this weekend.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Night Circle will hold its February meeting on Thursday, Feb. 5, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A light supper in the church kitchen will begin at 6:30 followed by the Bible study. Debbie McCormick will lead the study on the Christian virtue of Forgiveness based on Matthew 18:21-35. All women are invited to join the group in person or on Facebook Live. For more information, call Debbie McCormick at (540) 460-1325.
The annual Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s “Souper Bowl of Caring” food drive has begun with a theme of “Pack the Porch” for those with food needs. The railed porch area at the entrance to the church’s two front doors will be the food collection site on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The goal for this year’s event is to fill the porch completely with canned food, paper products and monetary gifts that will be donated to Helping Hands, a food ministry of Fairfield Presbyterian Church. The Collierstown Presbyterian Church family invites the community and its churches to help by bringing donations to the church on Saturday, Feb. 7. Volunteers will pick up donations if requested and will be on hand to help place items on the porch that day. Contributions may also be dropped off at Cattlemen’s Market any business day Monday through Friday the week of Feb. 2-6.
For more information on becoming a “Porch Volunteer” or to arrange a donation pick up, call the church at (540) 463-5918. Monetary gifts can be mailed to Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 and should be designated for “Pack the Porch.”
The Effinger Mobile Food Pantry will be at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, with a variety of free groceries items available for pick up. There are no income restrictions for this service. Items that will be available include fresh produce, frozen meat and nonperishable
items.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its annual “Warm Your Hearts” Soup and Salad luncheon immediately following the 11 a.m. worship service. The meal will include a variety of homemade soups, desserts and beverages as well as warm fellowship. Members and patrons will also have an opportunity to support the church’s annual Blanket Sunday campaign. Each year the Presbyterian Women invite the community to join in this project by making a monetary donation or by honoring a friend with a contribution to Church World Service’s Blanket program in their name. The cost of a blanket is $10. Donations should be designated for Blanket Sunday and mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450 or dropped off at t
he church by Sunday, Feb. 15.
