Church services across the community were canceled this past Sunday as Winter Storm Fern blanketed much of the country in snow and ice. Family members of mine from Illinois to North Carolina and Maryland were also impacted by the storm. Several inches of snow and sleet fell in our area. Final totals by Sunday evening were between 6 and 9 inches, although the sleet impacted much of that total.
Roads throughout the valley remained covered until Monday after the storm moved out.
The National Weather Service issued an extreme cold warning upon the storm’s exit. As temperatures plummet to single digits with wind chills as low as 15 below zero over the coming days, do not go outside without covering as much skin as possible to avoid hypothermia and potential frostbite. Stay indoors and keep warm!
