Enderly Students Return To School After Leak

Students at Enderly Heights Elementary School were temporarily relocated earlier this month after a major water pipe leak discovered over winter break required extensive repairs.

According to Superintendent Heather Ault, school officials initially kept Enderly open on Tuesday, Jan. 6, while crews worked to locate the source of the leak. Water service remained operational that day, but efforts to isolate the damaged section of pipe were unsuccessful.

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Enderly was closed to students for one day after water service was shut off to allow repair work to begin. At that time, the district anticipated reopening the school the following day with minimal disruption. However, administrators later determined that the leak was more complex than originally anticipated and could not be isolated.

Students went back to the school the next day with full access to water while crews worked to locate the source of the leak.

But in a Jan. 13 update to families, Ault said water service would need to be turned off again in order to complete repairs. With no immediate resolution in sight, the district arranged for Enderly students to continue learning in person by temporarily attending classes at Parry McCluer Middle School beginning Wednesday, Jan. 14. The “BEST” after-school program was paused during the relocation.

According to an update last Friday, Jan. 16, the source of the leak was believed to have been identified and the damaged section of pipe has been removed. Replacement materials were expected to arrive Monday, with installation scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

In a final message sent yesterday, Ault said that water service has been restored, and repairs to the damaged pipe have been completed. As a result, students and staff will return to their regular schedule at Enderly beginning today, Jan. 21.

Ault said some follow-up work will continue in the school’s back parking lot to restore the worksite, but that work will not interfere with the school day.
