Parry McCluer High School junior Kebryl Chandler broke his own school record in the boys’ 3000meter run to lead four members of the PM boys indoor track and field team who traveled to Virginia Beach to compete in the VA Showcase meet on Friday and Saturday. Elite runners from Virginia and North Carolina competed in the meet.
Chandler placed second in 9:06.79 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, trailing only Gainesville senior Trent Daniels, who won in 9:04.09. Christ School’s Brooks Barbee finished third in 9:08.47. Chandler also broke the school record in the boys’ 1600meter run, placing fifth in 4:18.17. The record was previously held by his older brother, Kovyk, a 2024 PM graduate who won nine individual state titles for the Blues.
Also stepping up for the PM boys was sophomore Caleb Cooper, placing second in the 3200-meter run in a personal-record (PR) time of 9:36.17. PM’s Logan Wheelock finished 54th in the 3200-meter run in a PR time of 9:46.48. Behind the Chandler brothers, Cooper and Wheelock are third-fastest and fourth-fastest Blues in the 3200.
As the lone PM runner in the boys’ 1000-meter run, senior Josh Cooper placed 51st in 2:39.32, a PR and the third-fastest time in school history.
The Blues also had athletes compete at the Walter Bass High School Invitational on Saturday at Liberty University.
In the boys’ 1000m run, Sam Carpenter finished 90th in 2:59.32. Matthew Cooper came in 113th in 3:02.37, and Sebastian George placed 116th in 3:02.71. Kayleb Vassar came in 206th in 3:40.61, and Victor Poluikis was 215th in 4:11.16.
Carpenter led the PM boys in the 1000-meter run, finishing in 101st place in 5:05.66, a PR. George came in 123rd place in 5:12.58, Cooper was 129th 5:14.19, and Vassar placed 211th in 5:52.30.
In the boys’ shot put, Brendan Holdren led the Blues with a toss of 40 feet for 40th place. Vincent Wilson’s throw of 36 feet, 6 inches put him in 62nd place, Levi Helper finished 77th with a throw of 34-4.5. Phoebe Woods led the PM girls in the shot put, placing 79th with a toss of 21-8, while teammate Madison Glick came in 103rd with a throw of 15 feet.
