Remembering Lee, Jackson

Remembering Lee, Jackson

An estimated 300-400 people participated in the annual Lee-Jackson Day ceremony and parade on Saturday. The guest speaker at the ceremony, Braxton Spivey (at top right), portrayed Robert E. Lee as president of Washington College and spoke on the relationship between Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. Among the other speakers were (at far right) Brandon Dorsey, commander of the Stonewall Brigade of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and Mary Harvey-Halseth with the Second District of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. During the ceremony, Dorsey was given a Heritage Defense Medal from the parent organization, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Inc., for defending and promoting Confederate history. Among those laying flowers at Jackson’s grave was (at bottom right) Michael Pursley of Rockbridge County. (Stephanie Mikels Blevins photos)
