Grants Committee Chair Woody Sadler of the Lexington Sunrise Rotary Club handed out checks to local organizations at two club meetings last month.

Each organization representative shared information at the club meetings on how the funds would be used.

They included the Rockbridge Area Relief Association, cooler replacement; Yellow Brick Road, expansion in Lexington Presbyterian Church; Unity4Kids, meals and community needs; Boxerwood, NEST preschool outreach; The Community Table, Monday night meals; Rockbridge Area Transportation System, Special Rides for Service; George C. Marshall Foundation, lecture series; Rotary Club of Lexington Sunrise, tombstones; and Mountain Gateway Community College, welding classes. Grace Episcopal Church also received funds for renovations.

The next grant cycle deadline is Sept. 1. The funds distributed are from funds raised from the Road and River Relay Race, which is held on the first Saturday of May.

Numerous sponsors of the race join Lexington Sunshine Rotary Club and Foundation in making these grants possible to these community organizations.
