Led by junior Kebryl Chandler’s runner-up finish in the seeded boys’ 3200-meter run, the Parry McCluer High School boys indoor track and field runners performed well at the Liberty Premier Invitational on Saturday at Liberty University.
Chandler finished in 9:17.48, trailing only Gonzaga College High School senior Anthony Sarro, who won in 9:15.38. Lord Botetourt’s Ethan Thorne finished third in 9:20.71.
Joining Chandler in the race were two teammates. Caleb Cooper finished eighth in 9:50.16, while Logan Wheelock came in 11th in 9:56.16.
In the unseeded boys’ 3200meter run, Sam Carpenter led the Blues, placing 21st in 11:11.52, while teammate Sebastian George finished 23rd in 11:19.5.
Chandler led the Blues in the boys’ 1600-meter run, placing 10th in 4:23.93. Teammates following him were Caleb Cooper (29th, 4:34.26) and his older brother, Josh Cooper (41st, 4:37.96).
Josh Cooper was the lone PM runner in the boys’ 1000-meter run, finishing 28th in 2:42.32.
The Blues will next race against elite competition in the VA Showcase meet, starting on Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
