Washington and Lee University’s Concert Guild, in collaboration with the Lenfest Series, welcomes the JACK Quartet to Wilson Concert Hall on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m.
The Grammy-nominated string quartet has been a sensational presence in the classical music scene since 2005, as they introduced audiences world-wide to transformative chamber music in a range of settings, from traditional music halls to art galleries and bars.
JACK Quartet’s “stylistic range, precision and passion have made the group one of contemporary music’s indispensable ensembles” (The New York Times), and their numerous honors include an Avery Fisher Career Grant, Musical America’s 2019 Ensemble of the Year Award and Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award.
For the Washington and Lee performance, the quartet will present “Modern/ Medieval,” a program that explores the connections of musicality and thought between European composers of the past and the voices of music today. The recital will feature a wide array of composers from the 14th to 16th centuries, along with the living artists who incorporate the ancient language as an inspiration for modern reimaginations.
Tickets are required. Prices are $28 for general public, $23 for seniors; $18 for W&L faculty and staff and free for students. Online ticket sales are available at https:// my.wlu.edu/lenfest-center/ jack-quartet.
THE JACK Quartet will be presenting a program entitled “Modern/Medieval” at the Lenfest Center Jan. 24.
