Remember when the kids knew it was time to go home because the street lights came on? Remember when there were only a handful of channels on the TV, and you had to get up to move the dial instead of using a remote? I don't remember a time like that, but I used to hear my family talk about those times.
I used to love hearing about my grandparents’ lives when I was younger. Most of them are gone now and they didn’t leave behind journals or diaries, so all I have are memories of what they told me. I wish I would have asked them so many more questions and written down their responses. I still regret never getting the recipe for my Great-Aunt Ida’s potato salad.
There are so many other aspects of people’s lives that have been lost, for lack of a record. I wish I could have something more to offer my kids, who don’t have a chance to know them the way I did.
That's what The News-Gazette is trying to do with this most recent interview series. We want to have a record of local lives, local stories, even recipes - to have for future generations.
We would like to ask this community to help us find those stories that need to be preserved. If you want to submit the name of a friend or family member who you believe should be featured in our upcoming interview series “Remember When,” fill out the form at the bottom of this article.
