Rain To The Rescue

On Dec. 11, Melissa Sayre, Valley Program for Aging Services case manager, led a session on “Crisis Intervention for People Living with Dementia” as part of the Rockbridge Area Community Services Crisis Intervention Team training. Local law enforcement officers from the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, Rockbridge Regional Jail, Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail, and Washington and Lee University Public Safety took part. After Sayre’ presentation, officers shared personal stories and professional experiences that highlighted just how often they encounter older adults with dementia in their daily work. While the officers were camerashy, Rockbridge Area Community Services’ resident therapy dog, Rain, was not.
