Augusta Health, Cigna Reach Deal

Augusta Health had previously announced that its agreement with Cigna was set to expire on Dec. 31, 2025, after months of negotiations during which the parties had not yet reached a resolution on a new contract.

On Dec. 31, an agreement was reached with Cigna on a new contract. As a result, the partnership between the two organizations will continue without interruption, and Cignainsured patients will remain in-network at all Augusta Health facilities and physician practices.

According to a press release, Augusta Health and Cigna have agreed on reimbursement rates that more accurately reflect the cost of delivering care. Fair contracts with insurers are essential to ensuring continued access to comprehensive, high-quality care for residents of the Shenandoah Valley, it stated. This agreement supports Augusta Health’s long-term financial sustainability.

“We appreciate Cigna’s willingness to work collaboratively toward a resolution that supports our shared commitment to the communities we serve,” said Joe Meador, CPA, FHFMA, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Augusta Health. “This agreement ensures continuity of care for our patients and reinforces our ability to provide high-quality health care close to home.”
