Cook Surpasses 1,000 Points As PM Boys Trounce Wildcats, 71-38

On a milestone night, Parry McCluer High School junior guard Langston Cook nearly outscored Rockbridge County, as the Fighting Blues' boys bassketball team cruised to a 71-38 road win against their local rival on Monday in Lexington.

Cook led PM (4-2) to its fourth consecutive victory by pouring in a season-high 36 points. With 39.9 seconds left in the fourth quarter, he scored his 1,000th point on a layup. The game was stopped so that Cook, his family, the Blues and their fans could honor the achievement.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the Blues in the series. PM swept the series the last two years.

The Blues raced to a 25-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and increased their advantage to 36-17 by halftime, with Cook scoring 20 points in the first half.

The Wildcats (3-5) played their best in the third quarter, but the Blues still outscored them 18-17 to stay ahead 54-34 entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats ran out of gas, as the Blues outscored them 17-4.

Helping the Blues dominate were Nathan Glass with 17 points and Jamier Jordan with eight, including two 3-pointers. Brody Coleman chipped in five points, Quentin Rosser made a three, and Sam Griffin scored two points.

Bradi Ziegler led RC with 11 points, sinking all three of his team’s 3-pointers, while Brayden Camden scored nine points. Four Wildcats contributed four points each: Jakob Bailey, Jaxon Johnson, Christian Moore and Fisher Newhall. Maliq Corbin chipped in two points for RC.

The Wildcats will start the new year at home against nondistrict rival Turner Ashby. The junior varsity boys’ game is scheduled for 2 p.m., following the varsity girls’ 12:30 p.m. game, and the varsity boys’ game is slated for 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Wildcats will visit PM for a rematch. The day will start with the JV boys’ game at 2:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls’ game at 4, and concluding with the varsity boys’ game, scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
