Rockbridge Area Regional Jail has earned, for the first time, accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) by demonstrating compliance with NCCHC’s nationally recognized standards of care for correctional health services in jails.
The Rockbridge Regional Jail passed every standard and has been awarded accreditation with verification. Accreditation recognizes Rockbridge Regional Jail’s commitment to excellence, especially in providing quality health services for the incarcerated population.
To attain NCCHC’s voluntary accreditation, Rockbridge Regional Jail underwent a rigorous professional assessment in October. During the assessment, a team of experts that included nurses and a physician experienced in correctional health care surveyed the facility for compliance with jail-specific standards in areas such as patient care and treatment, health promotion, safety and disease prevention, governance and administration, personnel and training, special needs and services, and medical-legal issues.
“We have a constitutional obligation to provide quality health care to those incarcerated in our jail, and how we accomplish this, and how we practice daily matters to me and the Jail Commission. This achievement proves that our practices are innovate, efficient, and sound,” said Superintendent Derek Almarode. “I commend my staff, our nurses and providers, MediKo Correctional Healthcare and the Jail Commission for their hard work, dedication and support on behalf of our patients.”
“Accreditation is more than just a stamp of approval — it signals to all stakeholders that our jail meets nationally accepted standards and practices that ensure quality and integrity,” said Jason Tyree, chairman of the Jail Commission. “We are proud of this significant accomplishment, which reflects the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence demonstrated by our staff every day.”
The Rockbridge Regional Jail provides medical, dental, and behavioral health care services to more than 125 inmates daily.
