Lighting the Advent candle of Love at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 21, were the United Women in Faith. A Christmas Eve service for the Collierstown United Methodist Charge will be held at the Mt. Horeb Church at 7 p.m. today.
The Collierstown United Methodist Charge will have a combined worship service at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. The service will be led by the laity. A fellowship time and refreshments will follow the service. Also on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 4 p.m., members of the congregations will lead a time of singing for residents at Heritage Hall in Lexington.
Jade and Harper Knick led the lighting of the Advent candle of Love at the opening of the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Dec. 21. Geoff Goodbar, on behalf of the session and congregation, recognized and thanked Janet Scott for her service to the church as the clerk of session for 26 years. She was presented with a framed certificate of recognition and a framed local photograph. A donation of $500 has been given in honor of her service to the work of Gideons International.
The worship service concluded with the presentation of the Christmas play “Joy to the World” by the children and youth of the congregation. Following the worship service, a time of fellowship and a Christmas card exchange was enjoyed in the fellowship hall.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold two Christmas Eve services on Dec. 24 at 3 and 9 p.m. The sacrament of communion will be observed at both services.
A Christmas Eve service will be held at Union View Advent Christian Church at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary today. The church is located at 4574 Turnpike Road.
The Effinger Ruritan Club held its December dinner meeting at the Seclusion on Thursday, Dec. 18. Following the meal, Club President Chris Cartwright announced the selection of Rosalea Potter as the Effinger Ruritan Club’s Citizen of Year. She was presented with a plaque recognizing her outstanding service to the Effinger community.
