Man Charged In BV Incidents

The Buena Vista Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the recent vehicle tampering and theft incidents in the city.

Cody Joseph Shores, 27, of Staunton, was taken into custody and charged with one felony count of grand larceny of a vehicle and five misdemeanors: three counts of tampering with a vehicle and two counts of petit larceny.

All of the incidents in which he has been charged occurred during the night of Dec. 1-2 in residential areas along Chestnut and Lombardy avenues. Loose change, petty cash and wallets were stolen from cars, while other more expensive items, such as tool sets and unwrapped Christmas gifts, were left behind. Many of the contents of the stolen wallets, including identification cards, insurance cards and credit cards, were later recovered in the street by BVPD officers.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with additional information about these incidents, or any other criminal activity, is encouraged to call the Buena Vista Police Department at (540) 261-6174.
