One thing the Parry Mc-Cluer High School wrestling team is guarding against early this season is the temptation to look at the scoreboard.
For example, in a tri-meet last Wednesday at Wilson Memorial, the scoreboard said that the Fighting Blues dropped a pair of dual matches, falling to the host Green Hornets, 51-30, and dropping a 60-18 decision to Broadway. But that only tells half of the story.
“We wrestled really well,” said PM head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough, whose team took only seven grapplers to Wednesday’s meet. “We were able to win more matches on the mat than Wilson Memorial, [and] that’s where we are focused right now.”
Those seven PM wrestlers won at least once at Wilson Memorial, with Jordan Brockenbrough taking two victories at 144-pounds and Timber Thomas scoring a pair of wins in the heavyweight division. Graysen Simmons (157) and Brad Spinner (285/heavyweight) both won their only bouts of the night.
Isaiah Gilbert, Brody Julian and Liam Long rounded out the PM scoring by splitting their two matches Wednesday.
The Blues will play host to their own tri-meet tonight, Wednesday, when they entertain Giles and Alleghany, with matches slated to begin at 6 p.m. On Saturday, PM will travel to Buffalo Gap for the Bison Invitational.
