With distance runners and throwers competing, the Parry McCluer High School indoor track and field teams performed well at the Liberty Christmas High School Invitational on Saturday at Liberty University.
The PM boys had four runners competing in the unseeded 3200-meter run. Sam Carpenter led the way, placing 19th in 11:12.42. He was followed closely by teammates Sebastian George (20th, 11:13.27), Matthew Cooper (21st, 11:41.61) and Kayleb Vassar (23rd, 11:56.77).
Throwing for the PM boys were Brenden Holdren, Levi Helper, and Vincent Wilson. Holdren placed 13th in the shot put with a personal-record toss of 40 feet, 11.5 inches. PM throwing coach Danny Cole commended Holdren for how well he’s been doing in his first year on the indoor team.
Hepler finished 41st with a distance of 35-4, while Wilson came in 44th with a throw of 350.75.
For the PM girls, Phoebe Woods placed 50th in the shot put with a toss of 22-0.5, while Madison Glick finished 81st with a throw of 14-9.25.
After the holiday break, the Blues will return to Lynchburg to compete in the Liberty Premier Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10.
Looking forward to working with his athletes during the break in competition, PM head coach Chris Poluikis said, “I’m planning on getting the track legs under us. It’s going to be a time for us to get faster and hone in on the January meets.”
