Wanted Man Arrested in Rockbridge County

December 12th, 2025
MEDIA RELEASE

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED AND WANTED PERSON ARRESTED UTILIZING LPR

Rockbridge County, VA — On Monday, December 8, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Office of the Sheriff for Rockbridge County and Lexington City (RBSO) received an alert from a Flock Safety License Plate Reader (LPR) camera in the Fairfield area of Rockbridge County. The alert identified a stolen vehicle reported out of Virginia Beach and provided its direction of travel.

Sergeant Kenny Randozzo, Deputy Emily Davis, and Conservation Police Officer (CPO) Daniel Trout immediately responded to the area in an effort to locate the vehicle. CPO Trout quickly located the stolen vehicle at White’s Travel Center in Raphine and initiated surveillance until additional units arrived.

CPO Trout, Sgt Randozzo, and Deputy Davis then successfully boxed in the vehicle and conducted a felony traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

The driver was identified as Devron Derron Anthony Thomas, a 37-year-old male from Chesapeake, Virginia. Thomas was arrested and charged with Abduction of a Juvenile (by Force), two counts of Grand Larceny of a Vehicle, Attempted Robbery (by Force), and Burglary.

It is alleged that in Virginia Beach, Thomas initially stole a vehicle containing a child, later abandoned that vehicle, unlawfully entered a commercial building, and then stole a police officer’s personal vehicle, which contained a firearm.

RBSO deputies forensically processed the recovered stolen vehicle on behalf of Virginia Beach authorities and successfully recovered the stolen firearm.

The Office of the Sheriff for Rockbridge County and Lexington City continues to utilize advanced technology, including LPR systems, to enhance public safety and assist partner agencies in the apprehension of dangerous offenders.

Sheriff Tony McFaddin stated: “This arrest highlights the critical role technology plays in modern law enforcement and, more importantly, the professionalism and teamwork of our deputies and partner agencies. Because of their quick action, a dangerous individual was taken into custody, and a stolen firearm was safely recovered. Our commitment remains clear— protecting our communities and supporting our law enforcement partners across the Commonwealth.”
