High Bridge Presbyterian Church celebrated the first Sunday of Advent with the lighting of the first candle of Hope by the Myers family ‒ Brad, Hattie, Cora, Everly and Kinsley. The children’s sermon was led by Dwinnie Shafer with the first Sunday featuring a star and a story about the angel Gabriel. The second candle was lit this past Sunday by the Tackett family — Rob, Tracy and Cole. The children’s sermon led by Dwinnie Shafer featured a star with a presentation about Mary by the children.
Men’s Bible study group meets at 5:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the fellowship hall.
The deacons will be meeting on Dec. 14 after the church service. Also, on the 14th, we will collect the “noisy can” offering.
The annual High Bridge Christmas drive-thru Nativity has been rescheduled (weather permitting) for Sunday, Dec. 14, at the church at 6 p.m. Donations for the local food pantry will be accepted at the end of the drive-thru. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served afterward upstairs in the fellowship hall. Contact Donna Lotts, director of children’s ministry, if you would like to volunteer to help.
We will have a Christmas Eve candlelight communion service on Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.
The Festival of Trees is now taking place at Natural Bridge State Park gift shop. Please try to stop by to vote for your favorite tree and support local charities with gifts of canned food or monetary donations.
Roy and Connie Powell visited Roy’s muzzleloading friends in Fredericksburg this past Saturday. Also, this past Saturday, David and Carol Tolley along with Travis, Sharon Ann and Bear Tolley, Larry and Sharon Creamer and Tracy Tackett attended a birthday party for Eviana Tolley of Cleveland, Virginia, located in Russell County. She is the daughter of Gabe and Arabella Tolley and is 3 years old.
Yesterday, Tuesday, Dec. 9, the Beth Horon United Methodist women hosted the Natural Bridge/ Glasgow Ruritan annual Christmas dinner.
The Natural Bridge Food Pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, and close at 11 a.m. We ask that our supporting churches and friends donate peanut butter and jelly. Also, we will greatly appreciate donations to purchase hams for Christmas.
