Wednesday, Dec. 3 -- Auburn defeated the Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team 47-21 in the Fighting Blues' season opener in Buena Vista.
Kaylen Mitcham notched game-highs of 12 points and three assists to pace the Eagles (2-0). Carli Christian and Ariel Mullins scored 10 points apiece for Auburn, and Johnnie Gaynor tallied seven points and 12 rebounds.
Emory Slagle led the Blues with six points, while Kat Zissi and Caroline Watts each chipped in five markers. Josie Martinez had four points and a team-high seven rebounds, and PM got three assists apiece from Slagle, Watts and Patience Hill.
Auburn held a 43-27 advantage on the glass and forced 21 PM turnovers while committing 14. The Eagles also limited the Blues to just one field goal apiece in the first, third and fourth periods.
PM will return to action next Wednesday, Dec. 10, with a 6 p.m. home tipoff against Riverheads.
