The Rockbridge County School Board unanimously approved that the new vocational/ technical school would be named for Floyd S. Kay who had been the county schools superintendent for 20 years. - The Board of Supervisors was considering purchasing the Robert E. Lee Hotel and using it as a jail. - About 120 employees were expected to be taken off the workforce at Lees Carpets. The layoffs stemmed from an overall continued decrease in demand for carpet.

Faced with aging school buildings that needed renovations or replacement, as well as a decline in the number of school aged residents, Lexington City Council was looking at the possibility of reverting to town status. - The Architectural Review Board wanted to see more changes in the proposed design of the Lexington/ Rockbridge County courthouse.

- Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital performed well in a surprise disaster drill.
