Dec. 1, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: This is a letter of gratitude and support for BARC, its employees, many of whom are also our neighbors, and its ability to keep the lights on, the internet up and running is nothing short of awesome. When you consider that the electric cooperative maintains over 30,000 power polls, 2,000 miles of line and keeps the lights on for over 30,000 costumers in some very challenging terrain and certainly in less than ideal weather conditions, I am making the case that BARC should absolutely have the county’s blessing in building the facilities required at the current location conveniently located right here in Kerrs Creek.
To address the concerns recently expressed by Mr. Hart and Mr. Powers, I have to wonder what their objection is exactly to the planned warehouse. Both of these gentlemen are either running businesses in this agricultural zoned neighborhood or have gotten the supervisors’ go ahead to do so.
Big Spring is a very popular wedding venue which also now has several cottages which they rent out. Although I feel sure this is financially beneficial to the Power family, it does not in fact improve the lives of those of us living in Kerrs Creek.
Mr. Hart has been granted a permit to build and operate a country store which remains unfinished.
I would like to make a clear statement to our County Board of Supervisors that these folks do not speak for all in Kerrs Creek and I strongly and emphatically urge you to allow BARC to construct the proposed warehouse which I feel confident will be constructed in a timely manner and will result in a building that will not look out of place at exit 50 on I-64. Let’s keep in mind that coming off this exit one looks across the airstrip, then drives past the VDOT gravel lot, the recycling and Dumpster yard and tucked away behind all of this is the BARC facility.
