CONSERVATION award winners included (from left) Viveca Hanson, representing the Rockbridge County Planning Commission, Karen “KB” Bailey, Hunter Mohring, and John and Karen Pannabecker.

Six individuals – and a local government commission– were honored at Rockbridge Conservation’s annual meeting on Oct. 19 at Kendal banquet hall.

The event included a hike through the Sunnyside Preserve followed by an in-person meeting with hors d’orves and the awards ceremony.

The 2025 conservation awards were presented to Chris Slayden and the Rockbridge County Planning Commission, the Conservation Planning Award; Karen Bailey and Hunter Mohring, Lifetime Achievement Award; James and Karen Pannabecker, Historic and Cultural Preservation Award; and Larry Evans, Special Service Award.

Members elected new board members Sam Hirt and Ehi Rajsky, with returning board members David Agnor and Sam Allen, and new officers Shannon Spencer, president; Melody Tennant, vice president; and Megan Hess, treasurer.

The organization also recognized retiring board members Astrika Adams, Bonnie Bernstein and Jane Stewart.
