The Rockbridge County High School FFA forestry judging team placed second in the Federation Forestry Contest at Hayfield State Park in Highland County on Oct. 17.They competed in tree identification, equipment identification, tree volume, tree value, maps and compass. The students also placed well individually. The students, shown with their adviser Gwendolyn Gosney, were (from left) Rauf Glass, who placed eighth individually; Riley Hogge, who placed 13th; Caleb Chittum, who placed 12th; and Parker Zollman, who placed 11th. Gosney noted that area residents Timmy Goodbar, Justin Shanks, Roger Timbrook and James Meredith helped with the team’s practices and in finding locations to do tree identifications.
