November is Holocaust remembrance month. So, Jan Jolley and Bill Tuning took their classes on a field trip to the Holocaust Museum in Richmond. Mrs. Jolley said, “It’s very important that we teach our students about the Holocaust, because we don’t ever want something like that to ever happen again.” They spent the entire day at the Holocaust Museum.

The Marching Blues have been on a roll. On Oct. 25, they ended up taking sixth overall in the Powhatan competition. On Nov. 1, the band placed third overall in the Pulaski competition. On Nov. 11, at the Veterans Day parade, they played featured songs, including well-known pieces like the Blues Fight Song and “America The Beautiful.” A band member, Todd Carter arranged a song called “Sonic Boom.”

On Nov. 1, the high school held “The Follies,” a show for the students to show their talents with judges and parents. The three judges present at the show were Theo Larson, third-grader, Doug Hamliton, SSO, and Dr. Heather Ault, superintendent. The top three winners were the Parry McCluer Drumline, first; Jylian Grace Hayes, second; and AJ Roberts, Ayden Clifton, Brayden Lineberry and Ammon Richardson, third. Bub Bub Subs, Holy Cow, Don Tequila’s and Coiner Country Store donated prizes.
