Visitors to the service this past Sunday at High Bridge Presbyterian Church included Mr. and Mrs. Doug Caudill of Lexington.
Members of the congregation were given a daily devotional for Advent that was written by church members.
The Presbyterian Women will collect the fifth Sunday Mission offering for the Rev. Paul Sydnor this coming Sunday. The Reverend Sydnor is our missionary in Turkey.
The evening circle meets Tuesday, Dec. 2, with Lea Braford at 6.
Men’s Bible study group meets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the fellowship hall.
The afternoon circle meets Dec. 9 with Sue Braford at 1.
Recently, Kathy Gilbert and daughter Hattie Gilbert Myers accepted a posthumous award to Bob Gilbert from Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The award was for his many humanitarian endeavors. He was nominated by Jim Jones with the Natural Bridge State Park. Bob was a member of the Ruritans and Friends of Natural Bridge Park. He also volunteered at the local food pantry and Meals on Wheels and supported many other charities.
Former area resident John Ray Alford Sr. of Lynchburg passed away Nov. 12. John served in the Army JAG Corps and was a legal partner at Caskie and Frost. He also served as a member of the Judicial Inquiry Review Commission and was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was a member of class of 1953 at NBHS. The funeral was held at First Presbyterian of Lynchburg. A reception followed at Virginia Episcopal School Student Center. Attending the funeral from the area was classmate Nancy Tolley Hostetter and Brenda Shafer.
The Glasgow Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m. The theme this year will be “The real reason for the season.” Interested businesses, clubs and churches may obtain a flyer with a list of the categories by contacting Larry Spangler.
The Natural Bridge Food Pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, and close at 11 a.m. We ask that our supporting churches and friends donate cereal and instant potatoes. Also, we will greatly appreciate donations to purchase hams for Christmas.
