The village of Brownsburg will transform into a living postcard of 19th-century holiday tradition when it hosts its “Christmas in the Country” event on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The afternoon will feature historic house tours, craft and food vendors, music, a visit from Santa and the annual Christmas tree lighting. Everything is free, including hot chocolate and cookies, except for the ticketed items mentioned below.
The house tour, which will run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., will allow visitors to peek into two houses built in the late 1700s, Sleepy Hollow and the Lucas House, as well as the Old Brownsburg Store, B&B, which dates from about 1815, and the Brownsburg School House, which dates from 1850.
Tickets for the house tour are $25 per person in advance, or $30 the day of the event. For advance tickets and more information, visit the Brownsburg Community Association’s website at www. bcabrownsburg.com.
Historic Asbury Church will offer holiday meals with ham, sides and desserts, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. for $25 per person with children 12 and under free. Church choir members will also present holiday music from 1:30 to 4 p.m.
Young visitors will delight in dedicated children’s activities, including Christmas crafts running from 2 to 4 p.m. and the chance to meet Santa himself on the museum porch at 4:30 p.m. The day will culminate in the magical moment when the village Christmas tree is illuminated at 5 p.m., casting a warm glow over the historic streets.
Horse and carriage rides will also be available to take visitors back in time. The cost is $120 per carriage, which seats six, or $25 per person in advance. Reservations can again be made on the Association’s website.
