The 2025 People Choice Awards were presented Nov. 5 at the Virginia Horse Center. The Chamber of Commerce Serving Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County recognized accomplishments of exceptional individuals, organizations and businesses that are making a lasting impact throughout the Rockbridge area.

Bonnie Wilmer was named Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her unwavering commitment to community service, her work organizing fundraisers for the South River Volunteer Fire Department, leading the Women’s Auxiliary and providing support to those affected by natural disasters such as last year’s hurricane in North Carolina.

This year’s Humanitarian of the Year award was presented to Tammy Reid for her work with Unity4Kids and The Community Table of Rockbridge. Tammy exemplifies compassion, generosity, a steadfast commitment to helping others and a deep dedication to service. Her impact is felt throughout the community.

Educator of the Year Jessika Crance embodies the best of what it means to be an educator – dedicated, compassionate and deeply committed to fostering a positive and spirited school culture. Through her creativity and leadership, she has become an essential part of the Rockbridge County High School community, inspiring both students and colleagues. Her passion for education leaves a lasting impact beyond the classroom.

This year’s Employer of the Year, Pure Eats, is a shining example of how strong values, community commitment and a family-centered culture can create lasting success. Through hard work, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to people, Pure Eats has become much more than a restaurant – it’s a gathering place that nourishes both body and community.

This year’s Citizen of the Year award was presented to Laurie Macrae. Laurie embodies the absolute best of civic engagement, generosity, and community spirit. For years, she has worked tirelessly to bring people together and strengthen connections across Rockbridge County. From the Freedom Food Festival and Boxerwood Garden to the Rockbridge County School Board and local nonprofits, her leadership and kindness shine in every corner of the community.

“The Chamber is proud to recognize these remarkable individuals and organizations for their tireless dedication and outstanding contributions to our community,” said Janie Harris, owner of James River Realty and the 2025 chamber board chair. “Their work represents the heart and soul of what makes Rockbridge County a special place to live, work and play.”
