Nov. 12, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Mike Lowry, the N-G columnist who claims that he once was a member of the “Democrat Party,” regularly disparages the efforts of that party to improve the lives of our citizens.
But the party he disparages does not, to the best of my knowledge, even exist. He stated that he was once “elected secretary of the Grand Island/ Hall County Democrat Party,” but while a Google search revealed the existence of Democrats and their party in Grand Island and Hall County, Nebraska, there is no mention of either a “Grand Island Democrat Party” or a “Hall County Democrat Party” in that state. And insofar as I can tell, there are no members of a “Democrat Party” within the borders of Rockbridge County.
If one cannot keep straight the nomenclature of the group that one is criticizing, how accurate can the criticism be? I suggest that he Google “DNC” — which does exist — and see what that acronym represents!
