A Rockbridge County grand jury Nov. 3 indicted Chastity Nicole Hatcher, 43, of Glasgow on one felony charge of abduction to extort money in connection with an incident that occurred in Glasgow on March 13. Hatcher is also charged with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery in connection to the incident.
According to the incident report included in the case file, Hatcher held the victim hostage because she believed the victim had stolen money from her. The victim reported that Hatcher had assaulted her to make her confess to stealing the money, sitting on her chest and holding her arms down with her knees and strangling her. The victim reported that Hatcher had taken her to a nearby gas station and had “dragged [her] around the parking lot and into the store by her shirt and jacket.”
The victim was eventually able to get the money from her father and was able to leave, but reported that Hatcher had told her not to go to the police or she would “send people after her” and told her that she had two weeks to leave town. The victim reported receiving messages telling her to leave and that Hatcher would regularly drive by her house, honking her horn and shouting at her to “get out.”
Hatcher is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Dec. 16. - The following indictments were also handed down by the grand jury.
