Concerned About Debt, Other Issues

Nov. 10, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Are you aware of all the debt our Board of Supervisors has, or plans to, put on our backs? 1. A new Department of Social Services building at $8 million; 2. Undeveloped property in Raphine at $1.315 million; 3. Possibly a new recreation center at $13 million; 4. Possibly an airport $?.

And what about all the county staff that will be needed to oversee these new facilities/property — their salaries, benefits, pensions, vehicles; plus, the heating/ cooling/electricity/water costs to run them, equipment/upgrades: any price given for all that?

Does a rec center bring together a community, or would having parents teach/referee sports games with neighborhood children be a better answer? Who will benefit from a local airport — the minority of wealthy residents in our county or cities?

How do you encourage the growth of jobs — by increasing taxes/regulations on businesses/ individuals? Would we need so much “social service” if more people had jobs/homes and had true respect for themselves and their families because of their own accomplishments? Ever ask yourself “why work, if I have to pay taxes; if I don’t work, other taxpayers will pay me.”

Wake up, people. Government doesn’t earn money; it takes it from taxpayers. Less growth of government ultimately protects your freedoms. SUSAN WOOD Glasgow
