Collierstown

Deborah Potter McCormick, (540) 463-7652, mack53@centurylink. net

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church family would like to thank the community, and the patrons of the Presbyterian Women’s annual church dinner held Saturday, Nov. 1. This year’s dinner marked the 100th anniversary of the event that began in 1925. A total of 1,065 country ham, turkey and fried oyster meals were served. Funds raised will be used to meet and minister to the needs of others locally and abroad.

The bazaar held on the church grounds was well attended and featured holiday items, crafts, fresh vegetables, homemade soups, breads and other baked goods. The day’s bazaar proceeds totaled over $3,100 and will be donated to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Rockbridge.

Special thanks to the many former church members living outside the community who returned to attend and help with the event as did friends of the church in the community. The centerpiece of the annual dinner is extending hospitality and sharing the church’s fellowship with the community and the dinner’s patrons.

The Night Circle of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its monthly meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 6, in the fellowship hall at 7. A time of fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Bible study at 7. Rosalea Potter will lead the Bible study. For more information call Debbie McCormick at (540) 460-1325. All are invited to join the group on Facebook Live from the church’s Facebook page at 7 p.m.

The Collierstown United Methodist Church will open its doors on Saturday evening, Nov. 8, for area residents to enjoy a spaghetti supper beginning at 5 and ending at 7. The meal includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti, tossed salad, bread, dessert and assorted beverages. The cost of the meal is by donation.

A raffle drawing will be held at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at the firehouse. Fifteen winners will be selected for the donated prizes listed on the Effinger Fire Department’s Facebook page. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for six tickets, or $10 for 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased from any auxiliary member or by calling (540) 460-3980.

Each year the Effinger Ruritan Club seeks to recognize individuals in the Effinger community who demonstrate a commitment to community service. The club invites area residents to nominate or share information on individuals who have done that during the past year. To place a nomination or share information about individuals that should be considered for this year’s recognition, contact Chris Cartwright, Effinger Ruritan Club president, at (540) 461-0113.
