Oct. 29, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Many things seem clear from independent news reports: 1. President Trump repeatedly pushes against the law with vindictive suits against his perceived enemies; 2. he attacks Venezuelan and Colombian boats and murders seamen against constitutional and international laws; 3. he insultingly orders federal military forces into our cities, against our laws and with no good reason; 4. he dispatches masked ICE agents who terrorize our citizens; 5. he ruins what was a stable economy with mindlessly competitive tariffs; 6. he takes pointed, serious steps to stifle journalistic freedom; 7. he continually usurps the sole right of Congress to determine and direct monetary funds here and abroad; and 8. among the very first orders he had given in 2025 was to pardon over a hundred people who had, at his urging, violently stormed our Washington, D.C. Capital.
All this produces a great distraction — and for what purpose? Could it be to hide what might be said of him in the Epstein files, which the speaker of the House appears to be keeping from the public?
Meanwhile, Russell Vought, director of the OMB and the main writer of Project 2025, watches with his cohorts as President Trump turns into a monarch, the executive branch becomes stronger than the legislative and judicial branches, and our beloved democracy is rapidly turning into an oligarchy.
All these things seem to bear clear sign of a conspiracy to overthrow our democratic country. Those responsible should be called out for it. R. JOHN BLACKLEY Lexington
